Title: The Science Capabilities of the Integral Field Spectrograph on board of the Chinese Space Station Telescope

Speaker:  Lei Hao(郝蕾)

Abstract: The Integral Field Spectrograph (IFS) is one of the 5 instruments on board of the Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST). It provides the spatially-resolved spectroscopy with high spatial resolution and full optical wavelength coverage. In this talk, I review the basic concept and design of the CSST-IFS, its characteristics, and its science capabilities. I will also briefly mention its current status, challenges we are facing and the outlook of the developments.

Biography: Dr. Lei Hao is a research scientist and professor at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Dr. Lei Hao’s main research interests are the formation and evolution of normal or active galaxies. She has published over 70 refereed papers in various international journals, which have been cited for over 6000 times. She is the editor of the journalNew Astronomy Review. Dr. Hao is the Project Scientist of the Integral Field Spectrograph on board of the Chinese Space Telescope. She is also the PI of the “China Lijiang IFU” project, which is building an IFU instrument for the 2.4-meter telescope in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. In the meantime, she acts as a SAC member in the international collaboration of the Thirty Meter Telescope.
