Title: Galactic Feedback and the Circumgalactic Medium in the Milky Way

Abstract: AGN and stellar feedback processes strongly affect galaxy evolution and are one central unsolved problem in contemporary galactic astronomy. Galactic feedback processes mainly occur in the circumgalactic medium (CGM), which is another hot research field in recent years. As our home and the closest galaxy, the Milky Way is an ideal target to study galactic feedback and the CGM. Here I will talk about a series of our recent works on this topic, including our newly-proposed jet-shock model for the Fermi bubbles observed in the inner Galaxy, a new physically motivated equilibrium model for the hot CGM, how we use this model to independently measure the MW mass, and our recent study on cooling flows in the MW CGM.

Bio: Prof. Fulai Guo is a faculty member in the astrophysics division of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), currently leading a computational astrophysics research group. He received his B.S. degree in astrophysics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2001, and a PhD in Physics from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2008. He then worked consecutively as a postdoctoral researcher at University of California Santa Barbara and at University of California Santa Cruz (UCO/Lick Observatories). In 2012-2015, he was a Zwicky prize fellow at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, and in 2015 he joined SHAO. He is a theorist with a focus on hydrodynamic simulations, and has a wide range of research interests including black hole accretion and feedback, stellar feedback, the circumgalactic medium, the intracluster medium, cosmic ray astrophysics, etc.
