Description

Titile: Coupling between galaxies and haloes on small scales
Speaker: Yong Shi(施勇)

Abstract: As the main ingredient of the matter in the universe, dark matter is coupled with baryons through gravity. On large scales, such coupling has been nicely interpreted in the framework of LambdaCDM. However, there is a variety of differences between observations and predictions on small scales. To reconcile these differences, different approaches have been proposed, e.g. including the baryonic feedback and more radical ones by modifying the nature of dark matter. In this talk, I will illustrate some challenges on this topic by presenting some of my recent works, including a cuspy dark matter halo observed in an ultra diffuse galaxy and a universal relation between galaxy stellar masses and binding energies.

Bio:
Yong Shi received his Ph.D in astronomy in 2008 from the Department of Astronomy at the University of Arizona. He spent about four years in California Institute of Technology as post-doc, and then joined the faculty of Nanjing University in 2013. His main research area is galaxy formation and evolution through observations.
