Description

Title: Testing gravity in interacting galaxies

Speaker: Xufen Wu

Abstract: This talk examines the gravitational dynamics in interacting galaxies, focusing on collisional ring galaxies (CRGs) formation. We explore how progenitor galaxy structures and instabilities influence CRG emergence and compare the formation conditions under modified Newtonian gravity versus Newtonian gravity. Additionally, we discuss the external field effect's role in galaxy asymmetry, contrasting it with satellite galaxy morphologies from the TNG50 simulation. Our analysis highlights the intricacies of gravitational interactions and the need for a refined understanding of gravity in galaxy dynamics.
