Description

Speaker: Luis Ho (KIAA/PKU)
Abstract:
AGN feedback is often invoked in galaxy evolution, as a key physical mechanism to self-regulate star formation and black hole accretion. Is this mechanism truly effective? How to tell? I will describe a series of experiments designed to use the ISM content of quasar host galaxies to test the efficiency of AGN feedback. I will also introduce several new methods of estimating the star formation rate in quasar host galaxies, which is currently very poorly constrained. The star formation rate in quasars is a key parameter for understanding the coevolution of galaxies and black holes.
