Description

Abstract:
Intrinsic alignments (IA) of galaxy shapes refer to the physical correlations or alignments between orientations of galaxy shapes as a function of separations, rather than being in random orientations. IA has been indeed measured from actual data such as SDSS (e.g. Okumura & Jing 2009), and has been studied in detail as one of dominant contamination effects to cosmic shear cosmology. In this talk, I would like to discuss that IA can be used as a new cosmological probe, rather than a contaminating effect. For example, the IA power spectrum can be used to probe anisotropic primordial non-Gaussianity that is a smoking-gun signature of physics in the early universe (Akitsu et al. 2021). We also recently developed a new estimator of measuring the IA power spectrum from an actual data taking into account the line-of-sight dependent projection as well as the survey window effect (Kurita & Takada 2022). I will show some results, and any discussion/inputs are very much appreciated.
