Description

Title: Broadband SED modeling and its application in galaxies and AGNs science

Speaker: Lulu Fan

Abstract: Fitting the multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of galaxies is a widely used technique to extract information about the physical properties of galaxies. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the basic idea of broadband SED modeling. And then I will describe how I applied SED modeling to study the physical properties of X-ray-selected AGNs and WISE-selected dust-obscured quasars at high-redshift. Based on the results of SED modeling, we can investigate the scaling relation between the supermassive black holes and their host galaxies, as well as the evolutionary scenario of massive galaxies.

Bio: Dr. Lulu Fan is now a professor at the Department of Astronomy, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He received his bachelor degree from USTC in 2004 and his doctoral degree from International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA, Italy) in 2011. He then worked as a postdoctoral scholar at USTC and Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) before he joined Shandong University at Weihai as a full professor in 2015. His main research interests are multiwavelength observations, galaxy structure and co-evolution of galaxies with their central supermassive black holes. He is also working on developing the data reduction pipeline and related image analysis tools of 2.5m-aperture Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST).
