Description

Title: Dynamics of the Earth-Moon system and establishment of Lunar spatio-temporal reference system

Speaker: Wei Tian

Abstract: The planetary and lunar ephemeris, as a dynamic reference frame of the Solar system, plays important roles in many fields of astronomy and deep space exploration. The presentation will introduce a coompletely new planetary and lunar ephemeris PETREL19. Considering the particularity of the Earth-Moon system in the construction of planetary and lunar ephemeris, the report will discuss the key role of lunar laser ranging technology in the construction of the lunar ephemeris and the establishment of the spatio-temporal datum on the lunar surface.

Bio: Wei Tian is an associate researcher at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Science. In 2013, he graduated from the institute of planetary geodesy, Technical University of Dresden (TUD). After a long laborious work, the speaker systematically constructed a new planetary and lunar (numerical) ephemeris PETREL19. This work was included in the triennial report (‪2022-2024) of IAU Commission X-2 solar system ephemerides (https://www.iau.org/static/science/scientific_bodies/commissions/x2/commission-x2-triennial-report-2021-2024.pdf), together with the American DE ephemeris, the French INPOP ephemeris and the Russian EPM ephemeris, and it filled the gap in the field of planetary and lunar ephemeris in China. At present, he is mainly engaged in basic research on the dynamics of the solar system and the construction of planetary and lunar ephemeris.
